By the time an addicted person has reached the point that they are ready to get help, the family has also been affected. We have made every effort to protect our loved one from the consequences of their addiction, whether it is financial, legal or emotional. We often feel that we are the ones who need to get help, to catch our breath, renew our spirits and get a fresh start. At A New Day, we encourage families to start the healing process, along with the addicted person.Al-Anon family groups is a resource that we recommend to all families involved in the healing process from addiction. Al-Anon hold meetings daily everywhere in the US, to help families get connected, learn about the disease, and provide support for one another. In Al-Anon, families begin to learn how they can best help the recovering person to stay on the path to recovery. We encourage participation from immediate family members in our program throughout the treatment process. We keep in close contact with immediate families by telephone, to keep you advised of progress, status and things to look for upon discharge.
We view you as an essential component of your loved one's ongoing recovery program and seek to involve you in the treatment and recovery process. We have established a family weekend, as an opportunity for you to become educated about the disease, and gain knowledge of the family recovery process. The purpose of this weekend is to provide you and your family an understanding of the disease of chemical dependency, and gives you an opportunity to address the many questions and concerns you have about your loved one and this powerful disease.
If you are unable to attend when a client is discharged from A New Day, we can arrange a conference with the immediate family, the client, and the therapist to set guidelines for the next phase of recovery. We believe that if the disease affects the whole family, then the treatment for the disease should involve the whole family. |
