Understanding LSD Addiction

LSD addiction is one of the oldest types of drug addiction around, but it continues to be one of the strongest illegal industries to this day. LSD has absolutely no medical uses and there is essentially nothing positive that can be gained by consistent long term use. That is what makes it one of the most dangerous drugs on the streets today.

Commonly called Acid and variety of other street names, this drug is largely used by younger people, particularly kids between the middle school and early college ages. This is because it can be purchased for extremely low prices and it comes on small squares of paper that are decorated with a variety of different shapes and designs. Kids who do not have the emotional capacity and maturity to handle the side effects of LSD are drawn into a very serious LSD addiction simply because they are attracted to those cute little squares and feel they can't be too harmful.

There are hundreds of different designs of tabs that have been used, and surely there are hundreds more that have not crossed the path of law enforcement officers just yet. Kids experimenting with the drug or already consumed by a deeper LSD addiction stick the little tab on their tongues and allow the drug to soak into their mouths, delivering the effects extremely fast.

Instant gratification is another thing that lures in younger users who are very susceptible to developing a LSD addiction. Some of the effects while on the drug include a light euphoric sensation and hallucinations that can range from funny and lighthearted to extremely scary. Some users may also experience frightening flashbacks which are extremely difficult for younger children and teenagers to handle emotionally.

Whether the experience under the effects of the drug is pleasurable or not is often voiced in terms of a "good trip" or "bad trip." Those in the throws of a deeper LSD addiction will routinely take the drug in hopes of getting the good trip. They will suffer through the bad trips no matter how uncomfortable frightening they may be because it is part of the high, part of the LSD addiction process.

In many cases, what starts out as a LSD addiction will turn into an addiction with drugs that are even more addictive. Since this is a typical party drug that younger users will purchase large quantities of and pass around freely at parties and social gatherings, most people with LSD addiction will also come into contact with a variety of other common party drugs on a regular basis. The real dangers come when they start mixing different drugs in attempt to heighten the effects.

If an LSD addiction is caught early enough, the addict may be able to give up the drug without a lot of emotional or physical withdrawal symptoms. If the addiction goes on for a longer period of time and/or other drugs are added into the addiction, then they will likely need to attend professional rehabilitation services in order to get past the LSD addiction as well as any other addictions that have been formed.
