Those who seek treatment will find it and come to believe there is hope in "A New Day"

Heroin treatment

A heroin addiction can have devastating effects on an individual’s body and mind, not to mention the negative effect it can have on relationships, finances, and work.  It is not uncommon for someone with a heroin addiction to go from what some deem as ‘having it all’ to having nothing but an expensive and debilitating addiction.  There is hope for someone who has developed an addiction.

Heroin treatment may be more effective the earlier in the addiction process, before a full blown physical and psychological addiction is allowed to form.  Withdrawal symptoms also tend to be less severe if the addiction is treated in the early stages.  The longer one uses heroin, they will develop a tolerance for it and over time they will tend to increase the dosage amounts and frequency of use.  Not only can this mean they can experience withdrawal symptoms of greater severity, but there is a higher risk for overdose as well.  Some heroin users are so afraid of the withdrawal symptoms that they choose to continue using rather than getting treatment.  Hollywood and the television industry often feed into these fears as well, which can end up having a negative effect as well.

Treatment for addiction has come a long way over the past couple of decades, and Methadone is still a leading treatment for those suffering from a heroin addiction. Methadone is an opiate agonist which acts similar to heroin, but lessons the severity of the withdrawal symptoms.  Taken as directed, methadone is an effective Heroin treatment in reducing and even allowing a person to quit using heroin all together.

There are several other medical treatments that are used in treating opioid addictions, with varying results.  A person may detoxify from heroin but still have a psychological addiction which can lead them back into a relapse if proper psychological treatment is not obtained as well.  Many detoxification and treatment programs require that one participates in some form of routine therapy to help address and treat the psychological effects that an addiction can have on a person.

It can be very difficult to make the decision to get help for a heroin addiction.  It is important to know that there are options available to those seeking recover, as well as a varied level of support and therapy programs to help them gain control over their life again. One may be experiencing a great deal of fear and anxiety prior to seeking treatment, and it can even be so great that it prevents them from taking that first step.  If you or someone you love is experiencing this kind of fear and anxiety right from the start, please know that this is actually very common to have these types of feelings.  It may help to have a friend or a loved one to accompany you initially, to help you through this tough time.  They may be able to help relieve some of the anxiety and perhaps ask questions and help obtain the information you need, without you feeling pressured or judged.
